In one of my posts about opening a basic savings account in Nigeria, one of the most asked questions was on the possibility of opening an account without an ID card.

Well, it can be hard to open a bank account in Nigeria without an id card at least even if it is not from a big institution

The Most preferred forms of ID cards by Nigerian banks are:
=========
- National ID card
- Driving license
- International passport

Other cards that are also accepted but with some backup documents:
==========
- Student id card
- Employee id card
- ID card of registered association e.g. church, club or other group.

If you want to open a bank account in Nigeria whether it's a savings, current, credit card or domiciliary account, you'd need to at least come with an acceptable form of identification and the bank would list them out for you and other options in case you don't have them.

Personal id cards are necessary so as to know who to keep accountable regarding transactions on an account. Other documents or proof that may be required include proof of address such as utility bills.
